Don't Make These Mistakes While Buying Baby Clothes

Updated: Jul 28, 2022

Gamarjoba Moms! After posting about shopping the baby essentials, I want to share with you my experience of using a huge variety of clothes that was kindly gifted to us by friends and family. While all of them are cute and pretty, each type of clothes has its pros and contras, mostly from the construction side of things.

This post is going to help you with either picking the clothes for your little one that is on the way or even getting a better gift for your friends who are expecting or just gave birth.

So, my main lessons are:

1. The best long-sleeve onesies have buttons in front. Babies are not fond of being pushed and pulled through something narrow time and over again - a series of pushes in the very beginning was stressful enough!

2. Diaper changing is something you'll have to deal with quite often. Pay attention to the construction of the onesie. Cute clothes from local brands can be thought through a bit more, and in some cases, you’ll need to cut out a new opening and add extra buttons to the bottom part (thanks to my Mom!)

By the way, those spring/summer buttoned suits are so convenient!

3. Better buy a pajama without the feet part! If your baby’s foot is non-standard, you’ll need to eventually modify the whole suit (thanks to my Mom again!)

4. Sleep sacks with zippers are even better!

5. Size matter, age doesn't. From what I learned by now, when Daniel is 4 months old, the size of the clothes is rarely corresponding to the age the producers are indicating on the label. I’m talking about average babies, not tiny babies, as Mothercare gently calls the premature children. Some brands say that 68 cm is 3-6 months, some write 6-8 months for the same size, and it's really confusing. Orient on baby's length, not their age.

I hope this was helpful. At least I wish somebody would have told me all this before the baby shopping happened! Please let me know what you think - I really appreciate the feedback.
